Beyond Border is an exhibition about Korean Avant-Garde art in the 60s and 70s. During this period in Korea, the government censored all newspapers, and there was a lack of freedom among citizens. The Avant-Garde movement was brought into Korea by artists who returned from study abroad and sought to resist the oppressive dictatorship. The emerging movement was referred to as "Happening Art." Avant Garde artists were viewed as rebels by the government and faced prosecution or arrest. Even these threats did not stop this small group of visionary artists or their art practices. Beyond Border: Korean Avant-Garde 60s-70s introduces the Korean Avant-Garde movement and six of its pioneering artists.
